Be a part of a great Australian
choir! Experience the thrill of performing fine choral music to appreciative audiences,
and becoming a part of a friendly, social organisation.
The Royal Melbourne Philharmonic is an adult choir that has developed a fine oratorio choral sound quality and a repertoire indicated in our concert lists. Competent singers who fit this pattern are more likely to be accepted. The choir is a non-denominational organisation, open to all interested members of the community, and especially music students wishing to gain valuable performance experience. It has developed a social environment that adds to the musical enjoyment.
Prospective members wishing to join the RMP should contact our membership secretaries Jane Laherty or Pat Marley, and arrange for an audition. Successful auditionees will possess some music reading skills and a good intonation, as well as demonstrating a required standard of vocal ability and sound choral and aural skills. Auditionees will need to bring with them two copies of the music they intend to sing, in the key in which they intend to sing it.
Rehearsals are weekly, usually on a Tuesday evening. Choristers are expected to attend every rehearsal, and to give prior notice if they are unable to attend. Members are required to apply for leave, if their length of absence is to be extensive, and are required to re-audition upon their return.
The average number of Concert Programs presented by the RMP each year is five - six, with additional external engagements increasing this number to seven - ten.
Vacancies currently exist in all sections of the choir: Soprano 1, Soprano 2, Alto 1, Alto 2, Tenor 1, Tenor 2, Bass 1 and Bass 2.
RMP ... still bringing great music to Melbourne.
